What a ghost mannequin image is

A ghost mannequin image shows a garment as if it were worn, just without anyone wearing it. Shoulders, chest, and waist keep their shape, the mannequin is gone, and the inner back collar shows through the neck opening. In a studio this takes several shots and a composite retouch per item.

Ghost mannequin on Amazon: what's allowed

For apparel, Amazon has stricter main image rules than for other categories:

• Adult-size clothing is shown on a standing model in the main image.
• Kids' and baby underwear, swimwear, and similar close-fitting items, accessories, and multipacks are shown flat without a model.
• No part of a mannequin or hanger may be visible. Amazon asks for clothing to be shown flat or on a model; images edited to remove a mannequin are only allowed if the entire product stays visible, not cut off and not obscured.

Ghost mannequin images play to their strengths in your own store and on platforms without a model requirement; on Amazon they belong in the gallery at most, and only with the entire product visible.
